Client Situation: Our client is a privately held investment management firm based in Texas that has operated successfully since it was established in the 1970s. The company provides investment management and related financial services to very wealthy clients not just in Texas but also across the United States.
Though investment markets and investment clientele have changed dramatically over the thirty years since the founding of the client firm, the company's business model remained virtually the same as it was when first established. Overall investment market value appreciation and associated revenue growth, in the overall bull market since the 1980s, masked our client's increasing internal inefficiency and declining profit margin. Retirement of the founder, whose personality dominated the firm, allowed the company's new generation of leaders the opportunity to reassess and update its business strategy. Endeavor Management was selected to help those new leaders create a more competitive business strategy and to guide them in the transformation of the company.
Endeavor Management Solution:
Endeavor Management began with two, complementary paths or actions plans. One path focused on immediate revenue growth and the other path on developing a new business strategy. Regarding the first path, Endeavor Management helped client leadership design, launch, and manage its first-ever sales campaign. The campaign, led by client executives, increased sales, enhanced client service, and promoted teamwork among client staff.
The second path led to a new client-focused, more efficient business strategy, which required significant changes in client relationship management, investment service delivery. Endeavor Management guided key leaders and stakeholders both in developing the strategy and in developing a transition plan for making the strategy real.
Results and Benefits:
Upon presentation of the strategy to the client's board of directors, the board unanimously approved the new strategy and transition plan. Unfortunately, global investment markets crashed only a few months after strategy implementation began. The market collapse dramatically impacted the firm's income stream and like virtually all investment management firms, it has still not fully recovered from the resulting revenue losses. Importantly however, the changes in client relationship management and service delivery have allowed our client to weather that financial storm with little client turnover.
